The second “Union Water Cup – L’acqua che unisce” trophy will be held from 24 to 26 January 2025 in Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD), the great swimming sporting event organized by the Unione Nuoto Friuli with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Lignano. The event, which unites and celebrates six aquatic disciplines (swimming, paralympic swimming, finswimming, paralympic finswimming, freediving and paralympic freediving), will see over 400 able-bodied and paralympic athletes from all over Italy and abroad compete in the pools of the Bell’Italia EFA Village in Lignano.
“The idea for the event was born in 2023 from the desire to unite two different existing trophies in a single event, namely the Forum Iulii Finswimming Trophy and the Apnea Experience Trophy, with the aim of bringing together two increasingly popular sports disciplines in our region. After the success of the first edition, this year we decided to raise the bar even further and open the event to swimming, Paralympic swimming and Paralympic freediving, bringing 5 trophies to the event. The result will once again be a great sporting event in the name of competition and inclusiveness”, says Maurizio Vidus, president of the Unione Nuoto Friuli.
A busy calendar of competitions and a training course with freediving champion Angelo Sciacca
The second edition of “Union Water Cup” includes a busy calendar of competitions: it starts on Friday afternoon with the finswimming challenges (promotional and Paralympic). On Saturday, it will be the turn of swimming (propaganda and Paralympic) and, in the afternoon, of static freediving (able-bodied and Paralympic) and competitive finswimming (absolutes and beginners). Also scheduled for Saturday morning is a free stage with the international freediving and finswimming champion Angelo Sciacca, aimed at athletes of these two disciplines. The event will end on Sunday, with the swimming competitions for beginners, finswimming (absolute and master) and dynamic freediving (able-bodied and paralympic).
