Midsummer nights: music, theatre, culture

Fifth Edition of “Mid-Summer Nights” in Lignano Sabbiadoro! Six evenings of music, theatre and culture will transform Lignano Sabbiadoro into a vibrant open-air stage.

This unique and captivating journey will enrich the city's cultural scene by offering unforgettable and one-of-a-kind experiences.

From July 15 to August 19, 2025, Lignano Sabbiadoro will host concerts, performances, and cultural events as part of the “Mid-Summer Nights” festival, promoted by the Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro in collaboration with the Friulian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Mario Brandolin.

Locations: Two enchanting pinewood areas: next to Santa Maria del Mare Church and San Zaccaria Church

All events begin at 9:00 PM

Tuesday, July 22 – Santa Maria del Mare Church
A Triestine Love Story
A powerful story of love set against the backdrop of the Ethiopian war.
Rubén, a young man from Trieste and an early Fascist, volunteers for Mussolini’s campaign in Africa. Confronted with the horror and tragedy of the expedition, he is forced to question his beliefs and gain a deeper awareness of life and the world around him.

 

Tuesday, July 29 – San Zaccaria Church
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know…
Inspired by Woody Allen’s ironic masterpiece Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex…, Massimo Somaglino leads an equally witty and disarming exploration of love as a theme.
Through literature, poetry, and writings from all eras and cultures, this performance dives into passion—not only in its erotic form but as a broader human longing for fulfilment, happiness, and emotional truth.

 

Wednesday, August 6 – Santa Maria del Mare Church
Pages of Tango
With Daniele di Bonaventura (bandoneon) & Friulian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra
A musical journey through the most iconic Argentine tangos:
From Carlos Gardel, the father of the genre, to the revolutionary genius of Astor Piazzolla, who blended tango with jazz harmonies to invent the nuevo tango.
The programme closes with an original suite by Daniele di Bonaventura, exploring the full expressive range of the bandoneon.

 

Monday, August 11 – Santa Maria del Mare Church
How We Talk When We Talk About Love
A poetic and philosophical reflection by Paolo Nori on the language of emotion.
He shares the story of how speaking publicly about love—even in Italy—can still feel taboo. This monologue, with no musical accompaniment or debate, presents a deep and moving meditation on love, language, and what it means to express our feelings in words.

Brass_Love
Since the days of silent film, love has been a central theme in cinema—and so has the music that gives those stories emotional depth.
This concert follows the theme of love through some of the most iconic soundtracks in film history, from West Side Story to The Phantom of the Opera, arranged in original versions for brass quintet.
