Epiphany: Epiphany and Foghera 2025

Classic appointment with fun, music and gastronomy! We are pleased to invite you to the traditional Feast of the Epiphany in Friuli, with the lighting of the foghera with the Befana in Lignano.
Sunday 5 January 2025 we are waiting for you around 6.00 pm to spend an hour in company with the Alpini group of Lignano Sabbiadoro and taste the caliper: the traditional dessert of this festival.

Around 18.00, at the beach office nr 7 (near the sand nativity scene) the Befana from the sea will arrive, who with a large sack will distribute sweets and candies to all the children present around the large straw construction, ready to be lit .
At 18.00 everyone is ready to warm up! lighting of the great foghera (or pignarûl in Friulian). Every year, this festival is eagerly awaited by Friulians to predict how the new year will go! once the pignarûl is lit, one waits for the direction the smoke will take.
An ancient Friulian proverb narrates: if the fum al va a soreli a mont, cjape il sac e va pal mont; se il fum invezit al va de bande di soreli jevât, cjape il sac e va al marcjât. Thus translated: if the smoke goes west, take the sack and go out into the world; if the smoke instead goes east, take the sack and go to the market
